Bottom Line: Start With the Pirelli Logo, Not the Rubber

If you're sourcing Pirelli rubber floor, rubber carpet, or a rubber float for an industrial project, the material is rarely the hard part. The hard part is the Pirelli logo. Rubber Float and Rubber Carpet: Clear Up the Terms First

Let's settle this because it caused me an afternoon. 'Rubber float' can mean two different things. In construction, a rubber float is a masonry finishing tool. In flooring, it's often shorthand for a floating rubber floor tile or a loose-lay mat that doesn't need adhesive. If you're searching for 'rubber float,' check whether the supplier is quoting a tool or a floor product. Ask for a photo and a data sheet.

Rubber carpet is a little clearer: roll goods that install like carpet but behave like rubber. You see it as modular matting or runners. Most of the same logo rules apply. One difference: with rolled rubber carpet, the logo repeat pattern has to match at the seams. We learned that the hard way on a 40-foot run where the logo spacing was off by three inches at every seam.

Polycarbonate vs TPU: Pick TPU for Parts That Bend

The phrase 'polycarbonate vs TPU' comes up more often than you'd expect when people are specifying Pirelli-branded rubber mats and floor transitions. Usually it's for clear protective panels, ramps, or edge guards. Here's my short version: if the part has to bend repeatedly, choose TPU. But with the TPU parts, we avoided replacements that would have made the polycarbonate option 2.4 times more expensive. For repeated flex, TPU is a no-brainer.

To be fair, polycarbonate is a good rigid material. It transmits light well, resists impact, and machines cleanly. I'd use it again for a sight glass or a protective cover. Just not for a part that has to live its life bending.

The Pre-Order Checklist I Use Now

I don't do this by memory anymore. Our checklist has 11 items, but the ones that matter most for Pirelli rubber floor, rubber carpet, and rubber float projects are:

  • Logo file: vector preferred; if raster, 300 DPI at final printed size.

In my experience, TPU parts usually cost more per pound than polycarbonate, but installed cost depends on part geometry and quantity. Get current quotes before making the call. (As of January 2025, at least, the gap was smaller than you'd think for small to medium quantities.)

So, if your project is a Pirelli-branded rubber floor with strict logo requirements and flexible edge components, my advice is direct: lock down the logo spec first, confirm the rubber float product definition, and choose TPU over polycarbonate for the parts that bend.
